Last week, Simon Segars, the CEO of Arm, took to the stage at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona alongside some rather unusual fellow panellists. 4 children, all rising stars in the tech world, joined him on stage to share their views on the future of technology and what it means for the youth of today.

Arm has created a programme, called Generation Arm 2Z, to get kids and young people engaged in the discussion about where technology is going to go next.

Collaborating with Northstar and world-leading Cyberpsychologist Dr Mary Aiken, a report based on a survey with more than 2,000 young people aged 11-18 has been released to support the initiative. It learnt that:

  • Social media is addictive and bullying is common, yet extremely heavy usage exists among young people today
  • Many young people have multiple accounts on the same social media platforms
  • Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Robotics are thought to be the three most important subjects in 20 years’ time – and expectations are that robot teachers will exist
  • Most young people want to interact with socially beneficial robots and support the creation of robots to help people deal with loneliness and care for the elderly

The report, Youth on Tech can be downloaded here.

Alongside the report, Northstar has developed a video infographic which narrates the key findings from the report and challenges leaders in the tech space to give a greater voice to the youth of today.

The video can be watched below.
